Refinement

Dodging raindrops
As the sky bleeds
Tears that burn the soul
Running for what cover comes
But even cover is purposely perforated
So that the burn can melt away the old
Create the new
Somehow you pray that
You won't lose yourself completely in the process

Yet what is there to lose
When consumed by another force?
What is there to remember
Save another time, another life
That has no meaning in the grand scheme
But is so real and so hard here

You cup a raindrop in your palm
Funny how such a little thing
Such a light, gentle touch
Can so scald the spirit
You flatten your hand
And it spreads out in tiny rivers
Trickles along creating burn trails
Like dark veins that spiderweb new life
The healing sinks into you even as it burns away

When does the healing begin and the hurt stop?
The two are linked like macabre partners in a melancholy, yet necessary dance
Wrestling about in protesting flesh

Why is the metamorphosis so hard?
